Carthusian Social Distancing T-Shirt Adult

The Carthusians are an enclosed religious order of the Roman Catholic Church. Founded by Saint Bruno of Cologne in 1084, the focus of Carthusian life is contemplation. To this end there is an emphasis on solitude and silence.

The following are excerpts from the order’s statutes on the subject.

The primary application of our vocation is to give ourselves to the silence and solitude of the cell. It is holy ground, the area where God and his servant hold frequent conversations, as between friends. There, the soul often unites itself to the Word of God, bride to the groom, the earth to the sky, man to the divine. // Statute 4:1

God has led us into solitude to speak to our heart. Let our heart then be a living altar from which there constantly ascends before God pure prayer, with which all our acts should be imbued. // Statute 4:11
